La dedicatòria del Tirant a Ferrando de Portugal ha estat difícil d'ìnterpretar per als estudiosos de la novel·la. En aquest treball es proposa que Martorell tingué relacions amb aquest príncep i que la part de Tirant a l'Anglaterra fou escrita pensant en complaure'l, insertant motius que fan referència a les seves ambicions i i la seva tradició familiar; d'altra banda, es proposa una interpretació del terme "spectant" que s'inspira en ens projectes de croada lul·lians i que revela un coneixement d'aquest autor molt més profund del què solem creure.

The dedication of Tirant lo Blanc to Ferdinand of Portugal has been difficult to interpret on the part of scholars. In this paper, the aim of the author is twofold: on the one hand, he proposes that Joanot Martorell had relations with prince Ferdinand and that the chapters of Tirant in England were written by Martorell to please him by means of the insertion of motives referring to his ambitions and his family tradition. On the other hand, the author proposes an interpretation of the term "spectant" which inspires in the projects of Lullian crusade and that reveals that Martorell's knowledge is much deeper than we believe.
