Partendo dalla recente edizione di Craig Baker, si mettono a confronto la versione rimaneggiata del Bestiaire di Pierre de Beauvais e il nutrito repertorio delle sue fonti: se ne ricavano, da un lato, informazioni sul metodo di lavoro e sulla tecnica compositiva dell’autore, dall’altro osservazioni sulle difficoltà di impiego e sull’utilità delle fonti nella costituzione del testo critico.

Starting from Craig Baker’s recent edition, the article compares the reworked version of Pierre de Beauvais’s Bestiaire with the large repertoire of its sources. As a result, further information is brought forth about the author’s methods and compositional technique; on the other hand, the analysis suggests considerations on the difficulties of handling sources and on their usefulness in the production of a critical text.
