Allo scopo di approfondire lo studio delle fonti del Decameron, l’autore, invitato a ciò da alcune spie lessicali, accosta la novella X 2 al genere narrativo breve del miraculum, e precisamente con il racconto del «Diavolo servitore», nell’elaborazione (la più vicina a quella boccacciana) del volgare L di Bonvesin da la Riva, assunta come fonte ‘virtuale’. Un confronto serrato tra i due testi porta al riconoscimento del loro rapporto, nel quale però Boccaccio interpreta l’antico miracolo mariano in chiave laica.

With the aim of furthering the study of the sources of the Decameron, the author, invited to do so by some lexical spies, juxtaposes the novella X 2 with the short narrative genre of the miraculum, and precisely with the tale of the "Devil servant", in the elaboration (the closest to Boccaccio's) of the vernacular L by Bonvesin da la Riva, taken as a 'virtual' source. A close comparison between the two texts leads to the recognition of their relationship, in which, however, Boccaccio interprets the ancient Marian miracle in a secular key.
