Questo intervento propone una valutazione critica delle lezioni singolari che emergono dalla tradizione manoscritta di un passo nodale del Chevalier de la Charrette di Chrétien de Troyes, quello che narra l’incontro amoroso tra Lancelot e Guenièvre (vv. 4415-4754). Si tratta certamente di lezioni ininfluenti al fine dell’elaborazione di uno stemma codicum che renda possibile la ricostruzione del testo archetipico, ma molto significative al fine di capire in che modo i copisti operativi sui rami bassi della tradizione si confrontassero col testo recepito. L’analisi dettagliata di questi dati che la tradizione ci conserva consente di osservare denota processi ermeneutici che mirano a “migliorare” il testo antigrafico, sintonizzando il lettore con una precisa idea del romanzo e del suo significato.

This paper discusses the lectiones singulares which emerge from a critical evaluation of the manuscript tradition of a crucial episode of the Chevalier de la Charrette by Chretien de Troyes, namely the one which describes the sexual encounter between Lancelot and Guenièvre (vv . 4415-4754). The lectiones carried by only one manuscript are certainly irrelevant to the elaboration of a stemma codicum aiming to offer the general guidelines of the process which leads to the reconstruction of the archetypal text. Rather, this specific typology of varia lectio gets extremely interesting when it comes to the understanding of the behavior of the scribes responsible for the copies situated on the lower branches of the stemma codicum. Presented evidence shows that they were likely aware of the fact that the received text was failed and this is the reason why they were constantly adjusting it to a peculiar idea of the romance and its perceived significance.
